Hamas here appeals to the Western ear and tries to create a situation in which the West will normalize it as a legitimate Palestinian political force.

It wishes to leverage global support for the Palestinians in favor of the establishment of a Palestinian state – something that also receives support in the West and take credit for it, because it launched the 10/7 attack.

It is trying (and may succeed) to whitewash the atrocities committed by its people and is taking advantage of messages heard from Israel’s allies in recent months regarding the recognition of a Palestinian state.

I wrote here before that the discourse in the West and the willingness to recognize a Palestinian state at this time, while we are still at war, will be the greatest reward for Hamas.
