The Hezbollah-affiliated Lebanese newspaper “al-Akhbar,” along with other sources, published details about the detention of a Russian citizen and his wife at the Beirut airport as they attempted to leave Lebanese territory.
According to these sources, the Russian citizen was provided with maps indicating locations associated with Hezbollah and tasked with photographing these sites. He also reportedly frequented Hezbollah’s stronghold in Beirut, the Dahieh neighborhood, multiple times, and was present during last month’s Ashura ceremonies, aiming to gather information for the Israeli Mossad.
Reports indicate that the arrest was made possible thanks to cooperation between Hezbollah’s security apparatus and the Lebanese security forces, triggered by the suspicion aroused by the Russian citizen’s activities in the Dahieh.
Furthermore, reports asserted that during his interrogation, the Russian national confessed to being recruited by Israeli intelligence, also incriminating his wife in the affair. The Russian embassy in Lebanon has been briefed on the matter.
