After many weeks of stubborn refusal to back down, Lebanese Information Minister George Kordahi gave in to Saudi pressure and announced his resignation today at a press conference.
This is a significant win for the Saudis, who have not even promised to remove their sanctions on Lebanon in exchange for his resignation. The Saudis have proved that they can force political changes in Lebanon, in spite of Hezbollah’s position to the contrary.
It’s interesting to consider these events in light of the upcoming elections in Lebanon next March.
Saudi influence in Lebanon is certainly good for Israel.
