In a fresh show of respect for Muslims, the Mayor of New York City has announced that mosques and Muslim places of worship in the New York area will no longer need a permit to issue the call to Friday prayer via external loudspeakers.
Throughout the month of Ramadan, mosques will be allowed to broadcast the call to prayer through loudspeakers each evening, near the time of iftar, the breaking of the fast.
